Seeds

As well as buying many different varieties of wheat and barley to be used for malting, distilling and feed, we are also able to supply our growers with the appropriate certified seed directly to the farm. In addition to this we can also supply quality, competitively priced seed for the following; winter and spring oats, rye and triticale, peas and beans, winter and spring oilseed rape and linseed.

The seed we provide is available with a choice of chemical treatments designed to assist with combating the effects that certain diseases or pests may have on the crop.

Alternatively we can also supply Soil Association certified organic seed.

An area in which we offer guidance is with planning game cover, conservation and stewardship crops. Choosing the right seed for these crops is vital to get the maximum benefit and return. We have good knowledge in this area and can supply a wide range of seeds, and seed mixtures, including ELS and HLS mixes, to suit the customer’s requirements.We can also supply agriculture and amenity grass seeds. We keep stock of various types of lawn seed, paddock mixes and grazing leys, which are available in any quantity for sale to farmers, trade customers and the public.

Grain Trading

H Banham Ltd has been trading grain for over half a century and in that time has seen huge advancements in the way the industry operates. We have brought the business forward to keep up with these advancements and continue to develop new ideas all the time.We now trade all cereals, pulses and oilseeds through a range of futures based, fixed price, spot price and average price contracts. There are options to suit all growers.

Our close links to maltsters and brewers, the fact we are based in the heart of the main malting barley area in the country and our ownership of the variety Maris Otter has made us specialists in malting barley.

To malting barley growers we can offer:

1) Long term contracts with preferential terms and a wide variety of marketing options through the ABC grower group contract for all the main malting varieties.

2) Buy back contracts linked to end-users for Maris Otter barley.

3) Storage contracts

Maris Otter was initially bred in the mid 1960’s and after H Banham Ltd and Robin Appel Ltd revived the variety after the turn of the century demand has increased sizably. Maris Otter is easy to malt, gives a consistent grain for brewing and has led to it becoming one of the main varieties of choice for real ale production. With new micro-breweries opening all over the world, Maris Otter tonnage has continued to grow. 2015 saw the 50th commercial harvest of Maris Otter. We celebrated this milestone with the Maris Otter 50 Beer Festival at OPEN, Norwich.

Grain Storage & Processing

At our Colkirk grain store we are able to provide a barley screening service, to help you get the best out of your malting barley.

The facility has floor and bin storage for up to 2000 tonnes of grain.

Fertiliser & Salt

For horticultural and amenity use we supply a small range of fertilisers in 25kg bags.

We can also supply rock salt in 25kg bags for de-icing purposes.

We no longer supply fertilisers in large quantites for agricultural use. For a fertiliser service we recommend Payne Crop Nutrition as they have supplied our fertiliser previously to a very high standard. Please contact their office on 01328 864864.
